# OpenController > Use your PlayStation, Switch, 8BitDo and hundreds of other controllers in PC games, alone or with friends. Free and open source for Windows, Linux and Mac. OpenController is a free, open source (MIT) desktop app. While it runs, each connected controller shows up in games as an Xbox 360 controller with its own player number, and the original is hidden so the game doesn't see it twice. On Windows it uses two free drivers, ViGEmBus and HidHide, which the app installs on request; VIIPER is an experimental alternative to ViGEmBus. On Linux it creates the virtual controllers with uinput. On Windows and Linux any button can be remapped to another Xbox button, a key or a macro, in profiles that switch on with the game in front, and each stick gets a deadzone, full tilt, a response curve and a measured centre for drift. macOS reads controllers on its own, so there the app adds extra buttons as keys and macros, the light bar, battery and profiles that switch with the program in front. Windows 10 and 11 and Linux have x64 and ARM builds; HidHide has no ARM version yet, so on an ARM PC the original controller is not hidden. Linux needs glibc 2.35 or newer. macOS 13 and later get one app for Apple silicon and Intel. It has no account and no tracking. It checks GitHub for updates when its window opens, which can be turned off. It is in beta. The only official website is opencontroller.com.br; downloads come from there or from GitHub. It is made by Bruno Vinicius (https://brunovinicius.dev.br). The site and app are in English and Brazilian Portuguese. Latest version: 0.8.14, released 2026-10-26 (https://github.com/Brunovncs/OpenController/releases/tag/v0.8.14). ## Links - [Website](https://opencontroller.com.br/): download, test your controller in the browser, the controller list and questions - [Website in Portuguese](https://opencontroller.com.br/pt) - [Controllers](https://opencontroller.com.br/controllers): one page per controller family - [Source code](https://github.com/Brunovncs/OpenController) - [What's new](https://opencontroller.com.br/changelog): every version and its release notes - [All versions and release notes on GitHub](https://github.com/Brunovncs/OpenController/releases) - [Report a problem](https://github.com/Brunovncs/OpenController/issues) - [License, MIT](https://github.com/Brunovncs/OpenController/blob/main/LICENSE) - [Full text, with every answer and controller model](https://opencontroller.com.br/llms-full.txt) ## Controllers OpenController knows 927 controller models; most others work too. Nothing about you: no account, no tracking. - Is the app in Portuguese? Yes. - How do I update? The app lets you know when a new version is out. - Does it work with Steam? Yes. - Will games show PlayStation button icons? Not by default. - Can I remap buttons for each game without Steam? Yes, on Windows and Linux. - A and B are swapped on my Switch controller. Games see buttons by where they are, as on an Xbox controller, so the B at the bottom of a Switch controller is A in games. - My stick drifts, or no longer reaches its edge. On Windows and Linux, open your controller and go to Sticks, then press Measure. - Can each Joy-Con be a controller of its own? Yes, on Windows and Linux. - Can games use my controller's gyro? An Xbox controller has no gyro, so games don't see it. - Does it work with flight sticks and wheels? Yes, and it leaves them as they are, since flight and racing games read them directly, with their twist, throttle and force feedback. - Can more than four people play? Most PC games accept up to four controllers. - A game doesn't see my controller, or my PC gets blue screens. On Windows, you can try VIIPER. - A button I set to a key does nothing in my game. Some games ignore keys pressed by other programs, especially games with anti-cheat. - A HidHide window opens by itself. That is HidHide's own setup or updater, not OpenController. - The app shows my controller with another one's name. Some controllers copy another one's USB id, like the Onikuma C1, which says it is a Switch Pro Controller. - My controller is not on the list, or misbehaves. Most controllers work even off the list. - Is it finished? Not yet, it is in beta.
